Washington State requires all sellers and servers of alcohol to take and pass the 3 hours (MAST) Mandatory Alcohol Server Training course. GOALS and OBJECTIVES of the Course

  1. Give you the necessary information needed to receive and maintain your MAST certification
  2. Provide you with relevant information about how alcohol consumption impacts your guests
  3. Enable you to correctly check I.D.s in order to prevent service to minors
  4. Train you on how to identify and deal with Apparently Intoxicated Persons
  5. Help you prevent liabilities for yourself and your establishment
  6. Teach you the laws related to Alcohol sale and service in Washington State

COURSE STRUCTURE

In this course, we will show you the negative impacts that the overconsumption of alcohol has on an individual’s health, society, and place of work. We will also discuss liquor laws and tools that can be used to address alcohol-related problems. Our goal is to help build a connection between the laws and responsible service of alcohol that can positively impact your community.

This training includes 6 sections:

1. MAST Permit Administration
2. Alcohol Effects
3. Correctly Checking ID
4. When To Cut Someone Off
5. Liabilities
6. Know Your State Laws

Each section will conclude with a short quiz. The section quizzes are for review only and will not count towards your final grade.

STUDENT WORKBOOK

A #1 ALERT student workbook will be available for printing after the completion of this course. We recommend printing a copy for future reference.

IDENTITY VERIFICATION

To verify the identify, we use Two-Step Authentication which at random points in the course, will ask the user to enter a verification code that is emailed to the email address used during registration. Unless the correct code is entered, user cannot proceed.

FINAL EXAM

You must pass the final exam, given at the end of this course, with a score of 80% or higher in order to receive your MAST permit. Any notes that you have taken MAY NOT BE USED OR SHARED during the exam, nor can you discuss the exam with others during testing, unless an interpreter is required. 

The final exam must be completed in one session, but there is no time limit. 

If you do not pass the exam, you will have the opportunity to retake it. Instructions will be provided if you do not pass on the first attempt. In the event that you do not pass the exam on the second attempt, you will be required to re-take the entire course in order to receive your MAST permit. 

Please keep in mind that you will have 30 days following registration to complete the training and final exam. After that time, your account will expire and you will need to repay for and restart the entire course.

PERMIT & CERTIFICATE

Upon successful completion of the course and final exam, you will receive a Certificate of Completion as an email attachment. Be aware that the Certificate of Completion only provides proof that you successfully completed the course and is not the official permit. You will receive the official MAST permit by mail. You must keep your official MAST permit on your person or within quick access at all times when serving alcohol. We recommend that you make two copies of the permit and provide a copy to your employer. Keep the original and second copy for yourself.
